How does the fizz get into soda?
In order to be so bubbly and fizzy, sodas contain something special called "carbon dioxide," which is a gas.
The carbon dioxide is put into the soda by a machine at the factory where the soda is being made. The carbon dioxide actually has to be forced into the bottle and then sealed in quickly, because otherwise the carbon dioxide will escape! The reason the carbon dioxide tries to escape is because it will only stay mixed in with the soda when the bottle or can is sealed under pressure; once the container of soda is opened, the carbon dioxide rises to the top of the soda in the form of bubbles to try and get out!

Did you know that you can make your own soda at home? If you have the right kind of special bottle, it will put all of the carbon dioxide bubbles into your water or lemonade! Then, you can "go green" and avoid buying fizzy drinks in plastic bottles! What's your favorite part of a fizzy drink?
