Browse → Culture → Holidays

Veterans Day is an American holiday observed on November 11 to honor all of those who have served in the military.
The very first Veterans Day took place in 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson made a speech commemorating the end of World War I a year earlier. Called "Armistice Day" (named after the treaty that ended WWI), the U.S., France, Britain, and Canada all observed it until 1954. That year, the U.S. Congress decided to change the meaning behind the holiday to include all military personnel, and President Dwight Eisenhower signed the holiday into law on May 26.
