In order to make laws and rules, countries have governments, which refers to the people who lead and represent the country, and help to make its rules. There are different kinds of governments which give different amounts of power to the country's leaders, and different amounts of power to the country's people.
A democracy is a type of government where the people vote to decide about the rules and leaders that they want, and whoever or whatever gets the most votes is the winner! This process is known as an election. Everybody in a democracy gets a chance to vote so it is generally considered to be a very fair type of government since it gives people equal chances and equal voices!
